Tom Cochraine knew what life was about and to a lesser extent so did Ace of Base, and arguably so did Morrissey but probably not this guy.
As reassuring as it may seem to tell yourself ‘Life is a highway I want to ride it all night long' sometimes it doesn't hurt to engage in a slightly deeper dialogue about life and the human condition. Going to see a movie is a good place to start - especially if you don't waste your money on a crappy film and head off instead to see a gorgeous Swedish film composed of self-contained vignettes, each shot in a single take, which describe the frustrations, absurdities, and sadness of the human condition.
‘You, the Living' screening exclusively this weekend for Brisbane International Film Festival, is a film about humankind, its greatness and its baseness, joy and sorrow, its self-confidence and anxiety, its desire to love and be loved. Almost the entire film was shot in director Roy Andersson's purpose-built studio in Sweden, where he used an ensemble of ordinary-looking non-actors found in everyday locations. Everyday, ordinary, living human beings. Cool hey?
