There's nothing worse than a patriotic American movie (although I do have a soft spot for Annette Benning and Michael Douglas in An American President). But let's face it: a President naughtily shacking up with a member of the opposition would hardly happen in America, would it? The story W. about the man in the big hat, however, did happen.
This film by Oliver Stone chronicles George W. Bush's battle with the drink, his father and the world's evil, shining florescent light on a man that many Americans and most of the world are trying to forget.
Josh Brolin plays the man responsible for lines such as ‘Is our children learning?' and yet manages to avoid mocking the former leader of the free world. Now that's talent! Yet Thandie Newton as Condoleezza Rice on the other hand was distractingly hilarious as more of a Saturday Night Live impersonator than a serious performer. And just for the thrill of it, girls who grew up in the nineties will enjoy the surprise performance by Freddy Prinze Junior, who is in fine heart-throbbing form.
While most people will already be familiar with Bush's journey, it's the behind the scenes portrayal of a loud and naïve poker playing man which will captivate even his strongest critics.
