Brisbane's Gallery of Modern Art (or GoMA, as it is affectionately called) is well known for its many wonderful exhibitions. In such a short time since its inception, we've seen Warhol, Picasso and hosted the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art. GoMA also houses the Australian Cinematheque, which presents thematic film programs that showcase the work of influential filmmakers and artists. It's not your everyday Greater Union Complex that's fo sho.

To accompany GoMA's current exhibition entitled The China Project, the Australian Cinematheque is profiling three key directors who have shaped and defined contemporary Chinese theatre - Xie Jin, Zhang Yimou and Jia Zhang-Ke. Their films are not only successes in China but around the world. Throughout the month of May and June you can catch a selection of their films on GoMA's big screen for free, so take advantage!

Highlights of the program include '24 City 2008' - Zhang-Ke's recent production that won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The program offers something for everybody from sordid miserable love stories right through to the epic tale of Hero. The Cinematheque and The China Project are well worth a little look Brisbanites, so get yourself there.
