Controversial UK teen drama Skins is back - but this time, with an almost completely new cast. Many fans of the original series have been outraged by this change, but producers say they felt it would be unrealistic having actors who were no longer teenagers play teenagers on the show. This is clearly not the ethos of most teen dramas, and maybe something they could afford to learn from (it has always been hard to take seriously a 15-year-old with a receding hairline, after all).
Skins series 3 promises to continue shocking the community with its reckless, scheming, hard-partying teens for whom a quiet night is almost never an option. Tony's sweet'n'sour little sister from the original cast, Effy, is this season upgraded to queen bee - so the kids of Bristol probably need to be on high alert, as we've already seen what this sometimes-psychotic little minx is capable of. As fast-paced, foul-mouthed and stirring as the series is, it has always maintained a gritty realism and relatable humour that most others in its genre regularly fail to achieve.
Sex, drugs, and not much homework - but at least these teens-gone-wild are actually teens.
