Hello summer! OK, yes it might still officially be spring, but in our high-UV-insanely-hot little city, summer weather certainly feels a little more frequent than a heady three months once a year. Thankfully, FourThousand is proud to present ‘The Public Pool Series' - a list of local places to take a dip in the stick and swelt of the coming months.
2high Festival
Don't you just love it when a festival has it all? Music, visual and performance art, atmosphere, values, no ‘roided up guys with their shirts off... Sounds too good to be true, right? Well it ain't, sista (/brotha)! Backbone Youth Arts and the Powerhouse team up for a celebration of culture and the arts right here in this city we call home - or as some say "a sleepy little, backwards, bogan-packed country town".
PAP SPEARS
PAP SPEARS is a themed exhibition curated by Mariam Arcilla and lovingly features emerging artists Sue Dodd, Mari Hirata, Anthony Lister, Alasdair Macintyre, Daniel Mc Kewen, Sebastian Moody, Archie Moore, David Spooner and Jemima Wyman.
If you're game to make the trip to the Very GC, on this very spooky night, then you'll be in for more than a fright as Karen 19 turns into celebrity-style gala.
Edra Diamond Flap Sofa
Bling, bling, bling... designed by Franceso Binfaré and owned by the likes of Madonna, Naomi Campbell and Kanye West, the Flap Sofa is upholstered in over 750 000 Swarovski crystals fixed onto a highly resistant Kevlar fabric. The sleek shape of the upholstered base has parts that tilt at various angles to become backs and rests for unhindered relaxation positions.
Lick It's 2nd Anniversary
Hip-hip-hooray, it's your birthday! ... Que candle blowing, cake cutting and cheering all round, and then some snotty-nosed kid starts with the ‘happy birthday to you, you're one hundred and two, you look like a monkey and you smell like one too...' Yeh, good one mate. (Then again, you can only get that one in once a year).
Green Flea Community Market
It's not a scandal - it's true; the ‘fresh' produce from Woolworths ‘the fresh food people' ain't all that fresh. The last time I bit into a supermarket apple it tasted like a bag of bicarbonate soda. Honestly, what's the point of eating vegies if all the nutrients are left behind in the freezer where they were laid to rest after being picked fresh several months ago? It's time to take your green bags down to the riverbanks and fetch all your fruit and veg on Saturdays at West End's Green Flea markets.
A Street Art Exhibition
A night of taggin' on walls, faggin' on ciggies and slappin' on stencils right? Oh no pal, you got the wrong side of the tracks. At Boxcopy's latest group exhibition, A Street Art Exhibition there won't be graff, stencils or stickers - but they remain adamant that it's Street Art, although, after this show you may need to reconsider what Street Art actually is.
