Yassas! For 32 years now, Paniyiri Festival has brought together the best of Hellenic culture into one small area of Brisbane. It has wined, dined and danced hundreds of thousands of people over its rich history.

The heady mix of aromas makes this festival worth the entry price alone (souvlaki + honey puffs + haloumi = best ever). Get your fill at the honey puffs and olive eating competitions. But if you need more than food to entice you how about a sideshow, Greek-style: all the dinky rides and tacky plaster prizes you could want. Still not convinced?

Take a few of the Greek dancing lessons then get amongst the fray of the Zorba dance comp? Find out a little bit more about Greece at one of the public lectures. Or get the spirit(s) of Greece into you at the Greek Club’s Taverna Night. Memorise this phrase: “Thelo mia mpira” (“I want a beer”).

And if we still haven’t given you reason to go remember, even Effie will be there! Greece has never been this happening! E la!
