STRAY is about random adventure and escape. STRAY is about pretending that Brisbane is Ferris Bueller's Day Off and that fun and money aren't mutually exclusive. STRAY is cheap hijinx, cheap dates and the outings you could be planning while you're actually watching Video Hits on a weekend at 11am.
Hey Brisbane, are you ready to laff (sic)?!
Good. That really is the best attitude to have, particularly when there is a comedy festival approaching.
Actually, the 'laughing' is really a bit of a bonus. The real question is "Are you ready to go through a ticket-booking process and attend a venue at a specific time?.
Hands up who remembers ‘Amazons' water park - I'm pretty sure its Jindalee resting place is now a DFO centre, but you can't take away the memories - when everything seemed so much more terrifyingly awesome from 4ft tall.
While it seems like the fun never stops in grown-up land, it doesn't hurt to reconnect with small-yet-important things like sun exposure, high-pressure water and rides that make you slide, spin and cause water to flood your every orifice.
Not so much Brendan Nelson, but Steve McQueen, Uma Thurman, Dennis Hopper, even Carrie Anne Moss - no matter what your particular take on riding a motorcycle, it's more types of cool than you could poke a hipster at.
In pursuit of that vision, you should spend two days with a mixed bag of bogans and mid-life crises feeling scared, awkward and looking like a dick learning to ride at Aegis.
Korean Bathhouses have serenity. They're a place to clear the mind, pores and soul. They have the perfect combination of water: cold, hot and high-pressured, plus a big 'ol sauna to sweat it out in. What they don't always mention is they also have more old bratwurst than a German fall out shelter.
The Koreans will tell you, there's nothing more manly than sweating it out in a room full of weathered old-timers.
Unleash the Beast - you'd be forgiven for thinking this festival was for lion tamers or never-nudes coming out of their cut-offs. But you'd be wrong - it's this years 2high Festival theme - still pretty exciting though right?
In its 16th year, 2high has a proven history of presenting young and emerging artists into the creative cultural ecosystem of our fine city.
It's takes a remarkable man to woo Marlene Dietrich. From all accounts Fred Perry was tall, dark haired and handsome, but it wasn't just his looks or back hand in tennis that had the world swooning - it's the legacy he left behind as a well dressed gentleman. Perhaps a shallow call, but the world would be honouring your would-be-100th birthday too, had you pioneered a polo shirt so timeless your grandkids will be sporting them.
We may be creatures of habit when it comes to the 5pm knock-off, but this Friday QCA are giving us a rare opportunity to start our weekends a whole hour earlier. That's right, this weekend officially begins at 4pm with Open Air - a fund raisin', sausage sizzlin', toe tappin' all-ages music bonanza.
If the promise of a BBQ and a party-sized esky of cold beer isn't enough to lure you, performances from seven of our most treasured musicians, and plenty of green space to rock out to them, surely will.
