There’s nothing quite like a new shirt. It makes any day all the better, especially when that shirt is by a local graphic designer or fashion designer, not large corporates who undoubtedly eat babies and kick puppies. Better still is when you know that no one else is going to be donning it.

There’s also nothing quite like the squabble and squawk of an open market place. The hustle and bustle and you poke and prod, barter and buy.

Bringing you the best of both is Brisbane’s first t-shirt festival, the Brisbane Tee Party. There will be witty slogans, hot designs and a spectrum of colours a plenty as heaps of local graphic designers, tailors and fashionistas will be there, putting the hard sell on. Designers include Buster Kitten, Red Octopus, Nipple Cripple, S-Lab, Firebyrd, Ameise and Sosa.

Eighties and nineties corporatism is out. Niche is in! So if you’re over paying half your weekly wage for one ubiquitous tee that is falling apart and pilling after one wash then get to the Tee Party and support local artists and small businesses who are kind to their mothers and never take the last Tim Tam.

But it’s a festival of course. It’s not just shirts. You’ll find food, drink, music and mayhem.
