There are a lot of 'eccentric' (read: crazy) people in Lutwyche. On a recent shopping expedition, a friend and I encountered at least half a dozen within the first half hour – not least of which included a lady who tried to run us down with her car, an old woman proclaiming that we were both incarnations of the devil, and a charmingly-toothless man repeatedly hollering and winking at us while standing in the middle of a pedestrian crossing.
But once you get past these minor details, and the churn-load of traffic, Lutwyche's main road offers a string of thrift stores renowned as one of Brisbane's best op-shopping haunts. There's an enchanting world of trinkets and vintage attire at Salvos, a den of homewares and bric-a-brac down the street at Lifeline, and right above it the sweet haven of St Vinnies, staffed by a very sweet woman who – if you ask nicely - will even teach you about the forgotten art of hosting a high tea. All in all, a day of rummaging well spent.
