I guess we here at FourThousand could be accused of avoiding the hard issues, it's mostly just music, shoes and 101 ways to be more cool and creative than the next guy... what we never really think about is that the next guy might be homeless and he's got bigger things to sort out than who does good food and coffee. The Zoo is turning sweet 16 this week, and besides having housed some of your best gig memories, The Zoo devotes their birthday week to helping raise money for Brisbane Youth Service - a non-government organisation that provides a range of services to homeless youth from crisis care to vocational training.
The clever people at The Zoo collect merchandise from all the sell-out bands during the year. This merchandise is signed and you can bid on it right now, there are 43 items including signed t-shirts from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Explosions in The Sky and a limited edition signed print from The Breeders. The Zoo is also auctioning (live) the last remaining tickets to the Gold Coast Big Day Out tonight at The Datsuns gig and tomorrow night at Butterfingers, but you have to be there to win it. All funds raised from the tickets and the online auction go straight to BYS and best of all, if you score a BDO ticket you can stick it to the man and claim back the cost of the ticket as a tax deduction. C-razy.
There has never been a better time to Give Some Back folks.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
