SHOP is your guide to boutique fashion and retail in Brisbane, featuring pop-up shops and other places that are so hard to find that Google doesn't even know about them yet. SHOP attempts to open your minds, hearts and wallets to the plethora of things that you can probably live without but in actuality don't want to. Clothes, jewellery, books, bikes, bags, shoes, bags that look like shoes - SHOP gives new meaning to the superficial - wait, we're confused.
While low budget films flourish in other countries, us ‘civilised' white folks hardly ever make cheap, fun, ‘bad' movies anymore. Which SUCKS.
Something Weird Video specialize in boldly bizarre and bad movies; go-go girls, nudist camps, hippie drug casualties, low-budget sci-fi, gore, juvenile delinquents.
Oh come all ye vintage faithful, this silent Tuesday night to a little inn on Enogerra Terrace. Where three wise ladies have gathered to deck the halls with Brisbane's best vintage and crafts for a night of Xmas shopping and record playing.
The third in a series of Bazaars brought to you by Cheap Frills, here you'll find mens' and womens' vintage, retro and quality second hand clothes, jewellery, bric-a-brac, hand made crafts and other delights.
Meet Carmel Kambouris, probably the best 72 year old I know. She likes angels, tea parties, and giving money to charity. She also has a banging collection of vintage clothes, and back in her day owned Carmel's, a boutique on George Street which catered to stylish babes of the sixties and seventies.
Approximately 48 hours. That's how much time we have every weekend to cut loose, sleep in like a baby, market for fruit and vege, scope the fashion, eat cake, get a bit of culture, visit our folks and do our washing. It's a whirlwind.
For this Saturday only, It's Bazaar is here to help us cover three of those bases (and no, they're not help separate our whites or listen to dad jokes for us).
The forgotten art of the sock monkey has been resurrected by the one and only J Peterman. Avid Seinfeld watchers will remember that Elaine worked for the enigmatic Peterman, whose velvety timbre and gift for describing an everyday cardigan was unsurpassable. Killing time on my new favourite blog the other day, I was overjoyed to discover that J Peterman actually does exist, and not only does he exist, he's online.
"You know when you forget your best friend's birthday and you can't really give them that iTunes voucher from the petrol station, because everyone knows they sell them at the petrol station. That's when you need Open Sundays."
Wise words from the eclectic man who introduced us to the concept of $2 tacos on a Tuesday, the simple joys of fairyfloss at monster parties, and the happy glee of Alibi's bike sales.
La-di-da, Enoggera Terrace is hosting a bazaar affair. Channel your inner Annie Hall, get out your la-di-das and pretend like you can handle it (but you can't - it's vintage for christ's sake!) This is why they're serving wine and playing records: helps calm the nerves.
Your frivolous, indulgent self on the other hand will be pleased to know there's going to be approximately eight stall holders selling vintage, retro and quality pre-loved clothes as well as some books, records and accessories.
