SHOP is your guide to boutique fashion and retail in Brisbane, featuring pop-up shops and other places that are so hard to find that Google doesn't even know about them yet. SHOP attempts to open your minds, hearts and wallets to the plethora of things that you can probably live without but in actuality don't want to. Clothes, jewellery, books, bikes, bags, shoes, bags that look like shoes - SHOP gives new meaning to the superficial - wait, we're confused.
Those who frequent Brunswick Street would no doubt have noticed a new shop-front pop up. Boys breathe a sigh of relief, this store has one intention only, and that is to please you. Welcome to the block, Angus Black, a butcher shop in it's ‘hey day', and now the latest addition to fall under the Natalie Denning umbrella.
I don't know about you guys but whenever I get even the slightest whiff of some impending assignment, law exam, mildly-frustrating-thing-that-must-eventually-be-done, the first thing i'm gonna do is hit ebay and type 'Opening Ceremony' or 'Surface to Air' in the shoe search box and hit enter compulsively until I can atleast squint and pretend there's a reasonably priced pair of size 9 buckle wedge boots peering out from inside my macbook.
Donning a feathered shoulder pad, an array of differing black fabrics, and legendary Maison Martin Margiela hoof boots, Lylah owner Vivian Westbrook is a sight for sore eyes. Now call me crazy but I think anyone with the name Vivian is pretty darn cool, so along with the hoof boots this lady won me at first glance.
Hats. Tights. Parasol Umbrellas. Yep, Tiger Rag had me sold in an instant. This stylish retro-inspired boutique on Ann Street is quite the unique little find. It's prices are more wholesome than Happy Days and almost all of Tiger Rag's stock is made right here in Brisbane.
The theme of the store is loosely Rockabilly - as seen in its vintage pin-up girl prints, fishnet tights, and many stickers/accessories.
Every business should be like Kowtow. Sorry, but it's just the way I feel. This contemporary street brand from the fine shores of NZ is made from 100% organic cotton, operates under certified ethical Fair Trade practices, and still manages to deliver us great value, super-stylish urban designs, and even a free CD with every purchase.
Well summer seems to have stickily, unpleasantly arrived these last few weeks and the winter clothes have been put to bed for yet another year. Despite the relentless heat and crippling humidity, some cooler-than-thou kids manage to maintain their sleek look and perfectly sculpted hair right throughout the hotter months, and we think you'll find quite a few of this special species at APARTMENT.
Paddington is a suburb as renowned for its vintage shopping as its cafes, bookshops and parades of SUVs. Sure, there's the usual clusters of op-shops and antique stores (still always worth a visit), but if you want to bypass the digging and head straight for the treasure then Retro Metro is your best bet.
