Spring is the perfect time for lying in the grass with a good book, and Avid Reader is the perfect place to find one. One of the main cultural hubs of West End, Avid is a feast of all things colourful, curious, learned and literary. The store specialises in new, quality fiction and non-fiction, with niche sections for every interest - from art to architecture, fashion, film, design and travel - as well as a healthy dose of politics, history and the classics.
You can lose hours browsing in the air-conditioned bliss, treated to the sweet tunes of Okkervil River or Brian Wilson.Oh and you don't need to worry about being chastised that "this is not a library!" - Avid Reader's friendly staff more than welcome the community, letting you take your time to have a chat, a browse, or even a coffee at their in-store cafe.
Children are also well catered for, with a large offering of the latest storybooks to enchant and excite them. The store also stocks a range of CDs, gifts, toys, cards and other novelties - such as the timeless finger monster - and they even offer free gift-wrapping at your request.
