South Bank is still a place many of us can't help but associate with our childhood. Expo 88, or those long hot summers at Kodak beach, all sticky-fingered from chocolate paddle pops and endless rainbow slurpees. Back then, the most impressive shop was the novelty candy store filled deliciously wall-to-wall with sugary treats (and this still exists, and is still, in its own right, amazing) but there's no denying that South Bank has come of age as an urban hub of fine dining and shopping. How to be sure the transformation is complete? It now boasts the three must-haves for any "it" locale: tanning salons, fitness centres and tea bars.
In amongst the ever-increasing layers of boutiques and cafes (right beneath the Imax cinema, to be exact), you'll find the bright orange sign and boldly-dressed shop mannequins of a lovely little boutique called Akuti. The store boasts expensive formal and evening wear, in amongst its standard stock of mid-range designer threads such as Nookie, sass&bide, Zimmerman and Bettina Liano. There is also more affordable street wear, including cute Mink Pink sailor dresses and sparrow print tees, and a range of accessories from shoes, bags and headwear to gold sequin bikinis.
Hurry in and you might still catch the tail end of their winter sale...
