So turns out we have another designer shop in our midsts. The latest to arrive in our little Valley is fashion magician Akira Isogawa, and he's quite the exciting newbie considering his tally of international acclaim (oh, you know, just a few favourable reviews from publications such as The New York Times and US Vogue and some happy buyers in Europe). Wrapping up his printed silks and flowing fabrics, Mr Isogawa's new flagship store seemed to almost pop up over night, right next door to the beloved Blonde Venus.
Making himself at home in the Ann Street hidey hole, the store has been transformed into a hip down-town gallery of sorts where Akira's dreamy designs feature as the main attraction. One must remember: a woman doesn't just 'wear' an Akira garment, she 'experiences' it. Mr Isogawa's current collection is 'a translation of natural silks and linens, blending Shibori (a Japanese hand dye technique) and Yukata (cotton Kimono) inspired prints into fluid drifting shapes' - a delightful note to Akira's Japanese heritage.
The space's exposed brick walls, high ceilings, rustic fixtures and natural light play as the perfect backdrop to the gorgeous colourful clothes which hang from racks and the ceiling like little pieces of art.
We dig your digs, Mr Akira, sir. Welcome to the hood...
