Meet Carmel Kambouris, probably the best 72 year old I know. She likes angels, tea parties, and giving money to charity. She also has a banging collection of vintage clothes, and back in her day owned Carmel's, a boutique on George Street which catered to stylish babes of the sixties and seventies.
Now while vintage to some may be a sweet denim jacket find from an op-shop, Carmel's collection of labels such as Marni, Missoni and Emilio Pucci is a cut above the Lifeline bin. Deciding to do more for her choice cause, Children's Cancer Research, Carmel has put on a bit of a ‘do to peddle her drool worthy collection.
What began as plans for a small angel tea party/fashion parade amongst friends has blossomed into a big vintage fashion extravaganza being marched to City Hall. The parade will include 150 looks from Carmel's personal collection along with looks from fellow friend, 85 year old Mary Lipshut, of Melbourne's ML Vintage. Some of the glad rags will be for sale after the event - time to defrost the emergency Visa card kids. All profits will go to the Children's Cancer Institue Australia.
