Brisbane might still get dissed by some for being a small country town, but we've really come a long way to be quite the thriving, cosmopolitan city, with a myriad of places to drink, dine and soak up the atmosphere. But if you think it's just the Valley and West End where all the cultural goodness resides, think again - there's gems in places you'd least expect.
Local foodie Mei Yen Chua has gone hunting, and has uncovered every restaurant, café and eatery worth its salt from all corners of Brisbane. She brings them to us in an easily readable, superbly-organised guide that is "Brisbane's Budget Bites".
"The project took over a year and a lot of research," explains Mei Yen. "Our main criteria was food quality for price - being able to get a good meal for less than $20." A range of cafes - "because if you're paying $3-$4 for a coffee, you want it to be drinkable" - and ethnic delis are also included in the book, which covers a total of 120 eateries and 20 top coffee spots.
Overall, the perfect guide for anyone who likes good food that doesn't break the bank. Christmas is also just around the corner, and word is Santa has less than $20 and he's hungry...
