An open letter to FourThousand readers on long distance love from Miss Ward:
“This is dangerous ground. I am not the right person to objectively review an exhibition on long-distance love. I can recall shivers and fragments of my own experiences – it seemed to linger more on the heart-breaking, gut-wrenching, over-glorified, overwrought and obsessive side.
But that’s okay. If nothing else, these complex emotions are endlessly fascinating. Most of us, if we’re lucky enough, will get the chance to pick up some beautiful moments here and there along the path of life.
Travelling For Love is a gorgeous and intimate exhibition that captures the emotional catastrophe that is long-distance love, through letters, diaries, photographs, and artworks. But let’s face it. The real reason to go to this exhibition by yourself, you lazy voyeur, is for some cheap thrills. You know it’s true.
And you’ll see me there pretending not to look for similarities with my own experience but that’s exactly what I’m doing and that’s okay man, I swear it is, coz we’re all in this together and we’re all looking for that I-found-a-reason-to-keep-singing-and- the-reason-dear-is-you Love.”
