Was it '99 when Rocking Horse Records moved to Albert Street? Does anyone remember? Not that it really matters, the place still exudes that so-familiar-it's-almost-family feel. So much so in fact that the store workers will blatantly ignore you and scowl at you like you asked them to turn down their stereo when you go to make a purchase.
But there is always the one good thing about having ‘siblings' like that: they are going to know what's cool before you do. They wore skinny-leg black jeans when baggy was in, they totally had the handkerchief in the pocket/round the neck/round the wrist down before you and they we already talking about how "like every local band has totally sold out since their second self-produced, self-funded EP" now that they are starting to get successful.
For all the wankery it is by far one of the best music stores in Brisbane:
a) it has been around since 1975
b) they are very serious about what genres they stock and how they shelve them (no "everything that doesn't have real drums is under electronica" in this store);
c) they stay open after 5.30 on weekdays.
