Two of Brisbane's illest painters under one roof.

If you haven't had much of a chance to check out what's happening at NineLives, now is the perfect chance to stumble up those narrow stairs above Mellino's and check out what they've been up to. Flipping the bird to the age old tension between West End and New Farm, two local artists, Georg and Rob Scott, are pooling their resources and going all out for Friday night's opening.

Georg's art is inspired by his travels throughout Southeast Asia and Berlin, bombing the suburbs as he goes. This young troubadour can't seem to stop, and you can see this in his intense visual manifestations. There's no room left for excuses after the implications made by his work. He takes those all those empty envelopes, abandoned televisions, and parcel paper and lets Superman, Michael Jackson, Thatcher, and the street tell the rest - whether guilty or not.

Rob Scott takes cues from infinite sources, but he's created a style of portraiture all of his own. Imagine that you're Michael J Fox c.1985 and you're being transported between a Public Enemy show, a boudoir behind Moulin Rouge, Robert Longo's studio, a Harmony Korine film, a confessional booth, and ODB's wake; you're pretty much imagining Rob Scott's style. Dropping out of art school and using his oils in the only way he sees fit (the best way), Mr. Scott is certainly giving Archibald contestants a real run for their money.
