Nothing beats a Polaroid. Its nostalgic feel, its play of light, its instant development: there are many reasons to be a fan of this classic form of image-making. Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and 2008 is Polaroid's last year. This may not be surprising in our era of ever-advancing digital photography, but it still sure is sad.
Polaroid devotees from near and far have united under SaveThePolaroid.com to rally for the continued manufacture of Polaroid film. The site is loaded with beautiful images sent in by fans, celebrating the unique qualities and "transient beauty" of this once-beloved camera. Meanwhile, you better hurry to get your hands on Polaroid film - manufacture stops at the end of the year! Cameras can still be bought new (for a little while), or picked up second-hand from many op-shops and eBay sellers - just make sure they still work!
With tips abounding on how to best cherish and preserve remaining film, and pressure mounting on other film companies to take over manufacture, hopes are we won't have to say goodbye to the Polaroid just yet....
