Some things age with little-to-no grace - the things that have taken the heavy backhand of time - such as mullets, stone-washed jeans and Farrah Fawcett. But for every past fashion faux pas, bad-hair decade and Farrah, you get your odd vintage tee or Michelle Pfeiffer. For the latter, age just compliments their beauty and value.
And that’s the premise that the Lifeline Bookfest relies on. It is the perfect place to get your hands on some retro reads. The bookfest has gained some mileage itself. Starting in 1989, it continues this year at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, running for eight days.
All proceeds go towards Lifeline’s free counseling services and their 24-hour Crisis Counseling Line. We overheard someone wearing a pair of vintage Adidas sneakers at General Pants Co say that supporting noble causes is totally in for 2008 so jump on the band wagon! All the cool kids are doing it!
You could even be extra trendy and volunteer. Get your karma in the green with a full day (7.30am-5pm or 12.30pm-8pm) or contribute half a day (7.30am-1pm, 12.30pm-5.00pm or 4.30pm-8pm). To volunteer, call Anastasia on 3250 1927 or e-mail anastasia.magriplis@lccq.org.au.
And in case books aren't your thing there will also be a hefty supply of CDs, cassettes, magazines and records to rifle through.
