Ahh, VGA. The good old days of computing, when you could play Space Quest and Monkey Island to your hearts delight whilst munching on CC's and drinking Virgin Cola (ohhhh yeahhhh!). Pomomofo bring back those feelings of gaming bliss with their 90s throwbacks and dancey blip-rock on their latest EP - three original tracks plus two remixes of the lead single which bounce around like Commander Keen on his pogo stick and get you shaking more than a Rumble Pak. Island is pure energetic disco-punk, the video of which beautifully brings Teen Wolf back to life, whilst Tamagotchi Girl displays the Sydney three-piece's atavistic attitude well and truly on their collective sleeve.
Just Cos It's French sticks (geddit? ;D) it to the Parisian wannabes of this world, starting off with some very 1990-styled beats before being filled with monotonous spoken-word vocal flow leading into screamed lyrics for the chorus, all mashed together with acid-washed alarm-like sounds which hit you harder than Sagat and Zangief combined. This is part of the obvious progression from 80s-inspired music which was so popular only a year or two ago, which leaves us to ask - what ideas can we rehash from the noughties in the next step of musical "evolution"? I think we're screwed. But no matter, if you just wanna dance around, In Super VGA will mash your buttons.
