It is true. Melbourne really does do the pokey little coffee joint so well! Up in the sunshine state, where everything must be open and subtropical, the idea of a cooped up sitting-in-the-kitchen style café brings fears of perspiring in your latte, or worse, your friend’s latte!! But at Espresso Garage on Little Stanley Street you can have your cake and not sweat in it.

The café is a touch quaint and a lot inner-city chic. A dimly-lit shrine to coffee, it takes an interesting spin on the minimalist design approach. Borrowing from contemporary obsession with wood and earth tones, it breaks it up with splashes of fire engine red. At the front of the café is a huge red and clear glass paned door that lifts up like a garage door.

The coffee is superb. Served hot, full in flavour and delicate on the palate. And importantly, always served in the right cup. Espresso Garage coffee makes for a great accompaniment for catch-up chats with friends or the perfect take away companion to accompany you on the grassy areas in South Bank.
