Description:
World music: don't think Oxfam store background music - think critically acclaimed Russian bombshell Zulya and her band. Zulya's sound is influenced by her background which is Russian and Tatar - from Tatarstan (it's one of the Stans, but more central than Kazakstan). She may have grown up in Soviet times, and while Zulya draws from her heritage, she says the key to making original music that isn't traditional is to listen music from all over the world for inspiration. (Ah, maybe that's what they mean by World Music? - joking!) - RS

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
