Who knew John Cage would have had such a lasting effect on sound art. I think the modern equivalent of 4"33" would have to be that annoying guy next to you in the cinema chowing down on a tube of Pringles while you're watching a silent film. OK, so Douglas Kahn, noise art/theorist extraordinaire, isn't really Cage, or that guy, but he does seem to be the man on everyones lips for this weekends noise art festival, Wireless Imagination. In fact, Kahn wrote the bible.
You can catch a swag of artists who concentrate on the aural aspects of perception, including Rod Cooper, Christopher L G Hill & Alex Vivian, Sally Golding, Joel Stern, Alex Cuffe, Dylan Martorell and many, many more. Ears craving for aesthetic pleasure will be left wanting no longer; there'll be music, there'll be video, there'll be a hell of a lot of reconstructed everyday objects that'll sate your eyes as well. The only thing there won't be, it seems, is silence.
