Alice Lang - We Will Wait And See
I've never been one to think "what you don't know can't hurt you". But then again, I did grow up thinking a little too much about poltergeists and daydreaming psychic-sidekicks. Mulder thinks the truth is out there, but if he actually found the truth, would his world just implode? Would he die a happy man? Alice Lang; she's a mystics skeptic.
In her new exhibition, We Will Wait And See, Lang almost defies the indefinable. Her sculptures, which resemble twisted body organs form tactile shroud-like shrines, looming like monsters in the desert. Phantom limbs can be healed with her Mirror Box. But the icing on the cake - she's created a faux aura, using reflective vinyl that's being blasted with the light of a projection. That thing was designed to zone out in. Her special guest, Dhana Merritt has included some parasitic quilting that interrupts you as you try to navigate through the gallery.
