There’s not much point in us ranting on about the representation of utopian postmodernist decay or even discussing early modernist avant-garde desire because apparently people in Brisbane not only don’t understand the arts, they’re absolutely terrified by them.
Okay, so that’s not exactly true. But maybe the Queensland Government thinks it’s true because they’re running this initiative called ‘Test Drive the Arts.’ Basically they’re offering free tickets to a whole heap of shows, exhibitions and performances at a range of venues to people who have been a bit slack with getting their culture on.
So whether you’re an opera virgin, or you need some brushing up on your arts etiquette or you just like things because they’re free, why not head out and reacquaint yourself with your old longlost buddy, art.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
