Remember all of those high school teen movies that revolved around the ‘party of the year' scenario. Some nerdy rich kid would be sitting round with his parents at the dinner table, listening to classical music and then all of a sudden someone would yell out ‘PARTY!,' the windows would smash, a jock would walk in with a carton and one hundred screaming teens would follow.
Most of us stopped hoping for good times in the Valley Mall at least six to nine months ago. Possibly even longer, depending on how sober/cynical you are. But seriously it's time to give the Valley Mall one last chance, because there's a new and crucial reason to risk the short walk from other, more desirable sections of the Valley and head to the Italian restaurant opposite Ric's.
Ever since my Mum joined Facebook a few months ago, she's been pretending that she doesn't know how to use it when really she's a whizz at the Wall, and the Slide FunSpace formerly known as FunWall, and the Tetris, and the secretly-checking-out all-of-my-photos-hoping-to-find-a-scandal. We sincerely hope that you're reading this edition of FourThousand on Thursday. Because if it's actually Monday right now and you're bludging at work after your okay-but-not-great weekend you'll be feeling a little bit embarrassed that you missed out on so many awesome parties and art exhibitions.
It’s not often that the Gold Coast out-cools Brisbane. But on the two weeks of the year that it does, it’s so amazing that it actually makes up for the rest of the time. This is why we’re simply going to ignore the fact that we’re meant to be telling you about what’s happening in Brisbane, to focus instead on the second annual Tales from the Cold Ghost exhibition, opening this Saturday night in Mermaid Beach.
Is it wrong for us to suggest it's a lot safer to partake in cultural activities in the Brisbane CBD now that the Victory Hotel has burnt down? Hey, we're just putting it out there that there might be some kind of renaissance of cool in the city sometime in the future. For example the renovations in King George Square have nearly been finished, and damn does that concrete look skateable.
