There’s been so many art spaces opening in Brisbane lately and with every new art exhibition comes another conversation about whether our city is actually ready for this much art. The answer we’d like to offer is YES. There’s no reason why people should get freaked out by the idea of going to more art shows than music shows or games of football.
The newest space in town has been claimed by Boxcopy on the top floor of Metro Arts. They’re celebrating with the exhibition ‘Loseless' – a group show of new work by local and interstate artists who employ the digital video medium in their practice. Apparently the term ‘Lossless’ refers to a type of data compression that retains the exact original data instead of achieving an approximation. Maybe that means these artists are more about displaying a disregard or sense of indifference about video art rather than trying to be ‘perfect.’ It’s so tedious to be perfect, it’s heaps more brilliant to be lossless.
