Mymo is an intrepid character. You'll see her in all corners of the globe, at art openings in her hometown of Berlin, painting a wall in New York or Palma, or, right now, painting herself a Lightmare on the Gold Coast. She once gave audiences a chance to shoot the freak - an interactive work made using recycled cans and toy guns. Gangster. As part of Semi-Permanent (which lands in a couple of weeks), 19 Karen are hosting Lightmares, the solo exhibition of Mymo and a curated collection of works by young Australian artists.
Dreary landscapes turn into freakish imaginings, the possibilities with no ends, and intuitive art-making. Apparently the sun shines brighter on the Gold Coast, producing what man only knows as a Lightmare. Artists have been residing within the Project Space of 19 Karen for the past 3 weeks, adding a call and response site specific element to the show. Catch Mymo, Michael Candy, Hannah Smith, Georg Whelan, and some sunshine over the next five weeks.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
