Say hooray and jump for joy! Twice. Or once, really high. Firstly because emerging Brisbane photographer, Natasha Menon, is holding her debut exhibition, Kairos. Secondly because now you've got a seamless excuse to be peeking around The Fort. No, 'The Fort' isn't what the kids are calling Fortitude Valley these days. It's Brisbane's all-new-in-an-old building creative services collective or 'arts hub'.
OK, so we all think we're a travel photographer of sorts, but knock knock - it's The Lonely Planet and they're knocking at Natasha's door and not ours. Maybe 'cos her work is avant-garde in it's own little travel way - pleasantly devoid of the gazillionth artists impression of The Taj Mahal or any other cliché monument we don't need to see. In fact, the exhibition is more of a 'Real World's Most Beautiful People List' and focuses heavily on the good folk, more so than their lands. The shots are very visceral, brimming with the sort of momentary beauty you only get from someone after an hour long conversation in sign language.
It's a rousing set that will inspire you to go a little further than The Valley Mall to do your people watching. Maybe even as far as the seedy end of Brunswick Street for tomorrow's opening?
