So we've introduced you to Marky before and I think things went swimmingly, wouldn't you say? I mean he showed you his quirky goods and offered you cheap booze, it was a Sunday of highs. But then things got busy and some time passed, and you're wondering if you should start things up again? I'm mean, you're free most weekends and he did display some enticing qualities; he made a mean pork belly taco, had original tees and vintage clothing that you envied and was even into some burlesque accessories that kept things interesting.
Remember the good ol' days when an extravagant gift for a friend was Lipsmackers and a Shaggy single? Hey, don't judge - we've all been there, right? Nowadays if I were to give such a present, I suspect an awkward ‘oh you really, didn't have to' reply through gritted teeth and for the remainder of my gift receiving days to be doomed to socks or gifts akin to a giant stale turd in a box wrapped with a bow.
From a fox shaped teapot to a cow suit, Danielle Constance and Isabel FitzGerald, founders of Brisbane's own Suitcase Rummage know that there are gems to be found, for those willing to rummage. Emily gets the inside suitcase story and it's silver lining...
Emily Lush: What gave you the idea for the Suitcase Rummage?
Daniele Constance: The idea sprouted during a chat over a cup of tea, and a dictionary.
Free this Sunday? Well not anymore you ain't! Marky requires you attend his debut, Marky who? Marky Mark(ets), duh! Here's how it's going to play out: you'll plan to have a lazy breakfast and coffee in West End then casually stroll to the Boundary Hotel and what do you know, there'll he'll be waiting to woo you - the inaugural Marky Markets.
Whether you're a die-hard fashionista, a self-confessed bargain shopper or you perpetually hover somewhere in between, vintage clothing has become a sort of lingua franca for us clothes-wearing people.
This is the place where the used and abused, the distressed and the revamped, the new and the ancient can meet, greet and devonshire tea together.
Wallet? Check. Eco friendly tote bag? Check. Readiness to discover some of Brisbane's best emerging art, craft, design and musical talents all at one new, somewhat ingenious event? Check. Well, all you have to do now is wait until noon this Sunday for Suitcase Rummage to begin...
