Semi-Permanent is coming back to Brisbane! The bedpost of fresh Australian design conferences, SP have gained the reputation of horn-rim quality with the fun of intentionally sleepless Friday nights. The street smarts, and the book smarts. One minute you could be hearing high end graphic design babble, the other you could be watching Spiderman in slumber mode while Lister speaks (it happened at Sydney's SP in 2008).
Rachel Surgeoner sits down (via the interweb) for a quick Q&A with frankie co-founder Louise Bannister. Read the scoop on one of frankie's leading ladies - everything from travels in Mexico to rubber stamp collecting and scars collected along the way...
Rachel: We all know the ladies at frankie love a good cup of tea, what's in your tea jar right now?
Louise: I'm a peppermint tea fan through and through.
Back when everyone was studying cool shit like Coen brothers films and Seinfeld in semiotics class, we got stuck with the dud known as Signs starring Mel Gibson - thinking back, maybe the teacher was going a little off the Raëls. I take it that the artists featured in the Semi-Permanent event, Semiotics, were inspired by the former.

Tim Kentley founded Melbourne's XYZ Studios in 2003, and they've since gone on to produce consistently high-quality, innovative animated commercials that you've mostly likely seen on television - for clients like McDonalds, the World Wide Fund For Nature, Dodge, Havaianas and Honda - and wondered aloud: "how did they do that?" As director at an oft-awarded, highly respected animation agency, Tim's expertise and advice is highly anticipated at April's Semi-Permanent creative conference.
