Brisbane has its cool pants on again this week, with the launch of our third Mercedes-Benz Brisbane Fashion Week. The champagne is flowing, the glitterati are out in force - but don't let this put you off completely. Fashion Week is also serving up a side dish of sweet activities for us plebs as well.

Eight of this city’s premium up-and-coming acts band together to create one hell of a fuss at this year’s BrisIndie Fest. The always psychedelically great Pink Bullet will headline in all their aural calamity, whilst The Moderns, Numbers Radio, Kissy Trouble Company, The Cairos, The Surgeons, Buick Six and Lair Eon will be spreading the love of music across the day in what is an event not to be missed for fans of the local scene.

South Bank will play host to a bevy of Brisbane's hottest up-and-coming student designers this weekend as part of the third installment of the South Bank Young Designers' Market. Academy of Design graduate Amelia Duncombe is one young talent excited to be part of the market showcase. "The Brisbane fashion scene has undergone a transformation in the last few years and [SBYDM] is a clear indication that Queensland is moving full steam ahead," says Duncombe, who this Sunday looks forward to showcasing her collection of street wear.
With Orientation Week all but over, it is time to start doing some serious thinking about how you are going to:
a) procrastinate like hell until week 11 when you realise you know nothing in any of your courses and begin cramming or
b) (legally) keep yourself buzzed enough to get through all the reading and course work you need to do this semester.
Everyone is always in search of fresh and it doesn't get much fresher than the graduating class of any year. Cushioned by the cocoon-like, insular nature of an institution they are free to explore the very fringes of creative expression without the heavy burden of the status quo and economic efficiency weighing them down.
