Description:
When I was at uni, I never made it to that Wednesday morning lecture. I always wanted to go, but Taco Tuesday always destroyed me. I couldn't resist the $2 tacos, $4 burritos, $4 Coronas, tequila shots, margaritas and sangria. The Alibi Room as we know it may be gone forever but that doesn't mean that Taco Tuesday has to be too.
Hey amigo, you like it hot, eh? At long last, Tuckeria has arrived to educate us on how Mexican cuisine should be - fresh, flavoursome and packing a punch. Taking it's cues from San Francisco's famous Mission District where burritos, vibrant Latino culture, bustling bars and colourful street murals paint the city jalapeno green and chilli red.
If the closest you've ever come to Mexico is Taco Tuesday at the Alibi Room or spewing your guts up after one too many shots of Sierra Tequila. Then it's time us burrito loving, booze hounds got some real Mexicana culture courtesy of Dendy and the Hola Mexico Film Festival. Go loco on the thirteen feature films, ten of the best short Mexican films and a double feature of Mexican Grindhouse.
El Torito is so charming it makes the sun itself smile. When just walking along Boundary Street, you wouldn't even realise it was a restaurant - (if not for the chalk board proclaiming it's lunch specials).
It was these very lunch specials that drew me in... “$9.95 for a burrito/chimichanga/enchilada and a fanta/coke/diet coke/sprite” I said, “That's pee-pants sick.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
