Brian Carbee is best known as a choreographer, but his autobiographical novel set in 1980s Connecticut is the basis for Andrew Lancaster's film. It's refreshing that Australian-made films don't have to "tell Australian stories". Shot in Sydney amid much whingeing from St Ives NIMBYs, Accidents Happen features an almost entirely Australian cast doing American accents (Erik Thomson's is the shonkiest), and an all-Aussie soundtrack.

Written and co-produced by veteran producer Art Linson from his memoir, What Just Happened is a dry and achingly sad Hollywood satire. While it echoes themes from The Player, Entourage or even Tropic Thunder, director Barry Levinson finds genuinely touching moments amid the backstabbing and buck-passing.
