Hardy Amies' greatest achievement is himself. Hardy Amies was a man. Hardy Amies was a spy, as well as a couturier who organised a Vogue photo shoot right after bringing down the Nazis. Hardy Amies wrote this book for the young man, why? Because amongst other things he wants you to trust zip fasteners.
Valentino Garavani. What a man. I developed a fondness for this bronzed, nymph-like designer after viewing the documentary Valentino: The Last Emperor. Along with his overwhelming passion for couture and an undeniable talent for detail, this man was capable of throwing some very entertaining temper tantrums that only an Italian designer could throw.
Sure the First Fleet were a bunch of degenerate Anglos, but these here Fleeters have got a thing or two on their forefathers: a) style b) class and c) all their teeth - amongst other things like design, collaboration and networking skills. Fleet brings fresh faced local designers into the glowing light of retail euphoria in the form of a pop-up concept store in the Wintergarden.
Keeping an eye on the cool kids is much easier when they're all sitting at the same table having dinner and you find that chink in the wall and try to go for a quick peek.
That's where TOURIST Magazine come in; this isn't a looky-lu into some fashionista's daily shoe choices, but moreso a view into the better things.
In 1960, a dude called Brian Hyland made his mark in musical history when he warbled a little ditty about a girl wearing an itsy bitsy, teeny weeny, yellow polka dot bikini. After a generation of regular radio, a Spanish version by a moustachio-ed Mexican and an endless score of terrible karaoke renditions, you'd struggle to find someone in the world who couldn't at least whistle the tune.
