When I was a kid my Dad used to take our family's pale lemon coloured 1980s Ford (with matching lemon coloured hubcaps) down to a mechanic at the Wynnum-Manly foreshore to get repaired. The embarrassment of getting picked up out the front of school by that most socially crippling of automobiles was patched-up by the bag of hot chips bigger than my head (and I was a kid with a fat head) that Dad would buy for $2.
