So Crumpler decided to give ten artists ten pieces of blank canvas, let them do whatever they wanted to it. Then Crumpler got the canvases back and transformed them into one off original art bags. And there you have it. The opening and viewing of the bags starts at 6pm, with the auction beginning at 8pm.
The bag. What if this age-old transportation device was individually hand-crafted to order, using hand-dyed and hand-woven organic fabrics? Then it becomes something more than just a bag. It is a musing upon an ancient time, when people transported precious stones and scripts, and not just their iPhones.
As much as we like to think of ourselves as unhindered, wireless creatures from the future, the amount of stuff we lug around gets more ridiculous by the minute. This quaint, discerning store houses the most remarkable collection of traditional and contemporary Japanese design.
As you can see, I am pretty smart. But I find that when you look like a numnut, one thing you need is an outward sign of intelligence. This might be a pair of glasses, a t-shirt with your ENTER score on it, or David Sedaris in the front seat of your car.
The holy grail, of course, is an accessory that's smart AND fashion forward.
