Hello and welcome to Sydney band Talon's self titled debut long player. Released just last month it's a ten track juggernaut of indie-punk assault. It's savage, it's raw and it's beautiful.

The album was recorded in a month and a half and its strength of character comes from most of it being recorded live. Rather than stripping back, the band fleshed out their core sound with an adventurous bunch of trappings: clarinets, stylophones, violins and deranged choirs.

Opening track ‘Walking Straight Past Mona Lisa' is an energetic kaleidoscope of sounds and rapid levels. It's melancholic and almost romantic in it's own little way, setting you up for the epic brutality that is to come. Damn, these lads would have to go through some guitar strings, and I'd hate to be their drummers high hat. The album does mellow out in sprays, taking your mood to the bottom of a murky pond, then shooting you back up for air when necessary. Each track has different tempo; ‘Redheads' has a foot-tapping, hand drumming rhythmic quality, ‘Bayonet' is more hypnotic. Christian Best's vocals have such a potent air to them.

Talons are heavy guitars, hard beats and harmoniously erratic compositions. You'll enjoy it in a similar fashion to how some people like to pick scabs or dance on top of smashed glass.
