The main difference between Jess Cornelius and all your other favourite indie artists is that she CAN sing AND play her instrument. She actually has a degree in both. Hailing from Wellington, NZ, Jess Cornelius has been part of many groups but has just struck out on her own under the moniker Teeth & Tongue.
Monobasic is the firstfull-length record and feels like a newer and darker PJ Harvey. It is raw and riveting, with production from one of Melbourne's best, Casey Rice. You know, the guy that is in credits on discs by The Dirty Three, Pikelet, and Guy Blackman? It's just this side from dissonant, but completely captivating, and it all makes for a damn good first try.
And aside from the music, Jess is smoking hot, and that should be noted time and time again, whether in an online review or by your drooling open jaw at one of her upcoming shows.
