Lessons In The Woods Or A City, Talbot Tagora
Grinding, swirling, squealing, scraping...
Seattle's Talbot Tagora don't so much play their instruments, as assault, twist, pummel and throttle. Their herky-jerky brand of lo-fi indie punk brings to mind the tweak-core sounds of Brainiac, Trumans Water, or John Spencer's side project Boss Hog.
With unintelligible lyrics and this much noise, it's surprising the three-piece still manage to squeeze in a hell of a lot of pop. This is antagonistic music that's utterly listenable, with its joyful angular guitars, quirky catchy melodies and tribal drumming.
Lessons In The Woods Or A City, is one of those rare treats, an album that's both 'fun' to listen to and 'interesting' to study - both beer drinking and chin-stroking music. And that's what we like to hear.
