Yes, that's Matt. In 1986 at The Outpost
Many of you know Matt one way or another: The guy who owns The Outpost, DJ Old Lady, 1/9 of Nine Lives, The Mayor of Winn Street, the driving force behind I Used To Skate Once - but now it's time to take a spin with Matt as he takes you a journey through space and time. May we introduce you to Matthew Brady - the teenager, it was the year 1986 and punk was alive and well.
1. What makes a great mixtape?
The making of it is always fun, if you have someone to debate the merit of tracks with and their order is always fun too. My good friend Nick (El Norto) is always up for the challenge
2. What's your favourite song on the mix?
There are two: ‘Stamp Out Disco' Razar and ‘Elvis is Dead' Peter and the Test Tube Babies. Both remind of good times.
3. When you 'used to skate once' where were your two favourite places to skate?
When I was a little kid, my driveway. In my teens it was Woody Point Bowl, Redcliffe.
4. Best live show you've ever been to?
Too many... I've seen Billy Bragg, The Buzzcoks and Jonathon Richmond three times and New Order twice. The Cramps, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Rolling Stones and the Headhunters were all amazing, Go Betweens - beautiful, ditto Teenage Fan Club. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs supporting Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, the first time they came to Australia was also amazing. I've been lucky enough to have gone to Glastonbury festival twice and Nick Cave's APT in Sydney last year was also awesome - both are venues that really made the occasion. Royal Headache played in the Valley mall last month and they were rad. (Smiley face).
5. How did the idea for I Used to Skate Once come about?
We want to have a store event that celebrated our friends talents.
6. Name three artists (dead or alive) you'd love to have do a board for in the show
Cristo, The Gonz and Keith Haring
7. All time favourite road trip album or band?
If I feel like singing, the first The Jam album and a bit of The Who or even The Clash always works (this would have to be a solo road trip!) At the moment I'm on this Feelies obsession, but can always listen to the first Modern Lovers album, over and over and.....

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
