Hot little people making hot little songs in a hot little studio, all crafted with their hot little hands - it only makes sense that this record is hot, right? Not Paris Hilton hot (because that's obviously spelt "hott"), but blisteringly cool, as in the "hip" style of cool, not the "opposite of hot". In fact, it's so hot, it burns white, explodes in your mind like dynamite, then before you know it you've blacked out and fallen into a deep coma of groovy sounds.
'Where Are You?' opens the proceedings and succeeds in making you question on which sonic landscape you've found yourself, before the light garage rock of 'Scene Of The Crime' a few songs later runs up, gyrates against your body and melts your mind with some liquefying synths punching their way through the riffs. After these synths take charge for the mid point of the album, 'Electric Youth' shocks you with a few volts of gently guttural guitars, and before you know it, album closer 'Let Me Drag You Down' sinks you into a layer of sedimentary semi-psych sound. At times '60s rock, at others gliding pads of synthetic resonance, this record is just too much fun!

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
