Things you should know about Louisville Kentucky native Will Oldham (aka Bonnie ‘Prince' Billy):
His sound swings from polished alt-country to stripped bare folk, with consistently strong, intense, sweet (yet often dark) lyrics.
He's released some of the best music of the last decade (my faves include 'I See A Darkness', 'Viva Last Blues' and 'Days in the Wake').
He looks weird, he makes weird videos and weird TV commercials (these are good things).
He's released albums as Will Oldham, B.P.B. and variations on the name 'Palace' (Palace Brothers, Palace Music), as well as heaps of collaborations (Superwolf, etc).
His shifting names and styles, and resistance to interviews, has kept him from becoming any sort of recognisable celebrity - other than a cult figure - for over 16 years. Perhaps this explains his longevity and sustained mystery and intrigue?
He has a new album out. It's dark again, more polished sounding, and one of his strongest yet. BEWARE.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
