Watching Arnold Schwarzenegger flying to the aid of his son, decked out as Turbo Man with a built in jet pack, in the 1996 Christmas classic Jingle All the Way, was truly a beautiful moment.
While once, only in the movies could that kind of crazy thing happen, now a New Zealand-based company is ready to make it a reality, having been developing a real jetpack for the past thirty years.
The Martin Jetpack is available for keeps later this year. Although it may cost the price of a luxury car, the jetpack does put safety first (it is apparently as safe to fly as an 'an ultralight plane'). Will the Martin Jetpack revolutionise our transport system? Maybe. Will it improve father-son bonding? Most definitely.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
