Doc Martens are, like, totally hot right now. No longer just the footwear of punks and goths, these seminal boots have again been appropriated by the mainstream (think pretty girls with a touch of badass). In case you missed it, they've been a feature of numerous recent runway shows and spotted on many of the high fashion models that walk them. (Anyone who will admit to watching Gossip Girl would have also seen the hot-pink patent leather pair regularly sported by edgy-cool Brooklynite Vanessa. And she ain't no emo.)
After seasons of killer heels and the aesthetic-pollution of cork wedges, we can all breathe a sigh of relief: Docs are comfortable, versatile, classically-designed, and come in every colour and pattern imaginable. Get that rock 'n' roll edge when teamed with a pretty dress or teeny skirt, and prepare yourself to run amuck. And yes, they're for boys too! Gentlemen, this is even the first time you can reasonably borrow your girlfriend's shoes in a way that is neither creepy nor uncomfortable (for you, or the general public).
Best thing is: Docs are practically indestructible. No heel-snapping, strap-breaking, seam-bursting dramas here. Quality can be a surprising thing.
