Halloween is just around the corner, people! Yes, I know, it's an American tradition and one we probably shouldn't be celebrating (though with the current economic crisis it does make you wonder how many 'treats' there are going to be for the little ones this year), but there is still no denying Halloween can be a lot of fun. And definitely a better excuse than the Ekka to dress ridiculously and get trashed on sugar.
While I have been known to sport the odd $2-shop witch's hat and vampire teeth in an attempt at a 'costume' in the past, I've always felt slightly inadequate (translation: lame) in such attire. Imagine the possibilities with a REAL costume? Imagine the stares, the jaws dropping? Enter Disguises. They have the city's largest range of Halloween costumes, from creepy characters to movie stars and a wide range of zombies. But if getting your fright on isn't your thing, there's also a huge selection of other costumes - outfits from different eras, animal suits, 'sexy' attire... the list goes on. Check out their website to view the full range, and if you're extra keen, you can buy online while you're there.
If dress-ups are more of a temporary foray for you, then there are also plenty of great Costume Hire shops around. Check out Camelot Costume Hire on Adelaide Street or Brisbane Costume Hire in Red Hill.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
