Did you ever know that girl at school who got a human-sized teddy bear delivered for Valentine's Day from her oh-so-gorgeous boyfriend? Neither did I. But she was always rumoured to exist, at some nearby school, and that little love story was relayed around with a lot of envy and feigned resentment. In retrospect, I wonder why we cared at all... What the hell would she do with it once the show-off-moment was over? Who really wants that furry imposition taking up half their room? That's if she even made it home. Most likely she got hit by a bus just trying to cross the road.
So the moral of the story is: no one likes giant bears. Betty and Hamish, on the other hand, deliver us modestly-sized, quirkily-imagined, adult-appropriate toys that are guaranteed to make your loved ones melt. They are designed, named and handsewn by the very talented Kate Brereton, who's been charming indie-kids-at-heart for years with her sweet posse of plush delights.
If you're keen to get your other half one for the big day (or just treat yourself!), you best get online ASAP and get that express post happening. As cute as these guys are, no one likes a late pressie.

FourThousand is a subcultural guide to Brisbane, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Brisbane writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence FourThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
